Big Mal’s Classic Car Garage didn’t start out as a business and was never planned to be. It started with a forty-year passion for classic cars and motor racing which was an interest, then hobby, grew to be an obsession and at the point where it started to get a bit crazy, a business.
Malcolm has been collecting cars since the early 1990’s starting off small, the passion grew along with the momentum ending up today with a collection spanning 50 cars of varying makes and models, housed in a warehouse display that is regularly opened to car clubs and occasionally to the public.
Malcolm also has a regular classic car segment on the national radio show ‘The Driver’s Seat’, is being featured in an upcoming book on ‘Men and their collections’, is writing a book on the definitive guide to all things classic cars. He also owns an automotive memorabilia bar in Bali called the Man Shed, and with his daughter Holly started a business called Classic Coffee fitting out Kombis as mobile coffee vans and attending car shows and events.
As a member of many car clubs and the President of the Man Shed Classic Car Club, Malcolm enjoys sharing his passion with others, getting out on the racetrack as much as possible, and working on several restoration projects. His collection ranges from Australian, British and European classics, race cars and muscle cars right through to the different and unique including a DeLorean, and something every decade from the 30’s to the 80’s.
Just for fun and working with a friend who owns a design agency on a few logos and designs to put on t-shirts as gifts for friends, a brand emerged that resonated with like-minded car enthusiasts. The designs were different, fun and embodied the car culture that some of the more ‘mature’ people enjoyed. Designs that we wanted to wear. A little bit nostalgic, never overdone, and always fun those that had them were stopped frequently and asked, ‘where can I get one of those?’ Lots of families wanting to get one for their partner, dad or grandfather.
And so the ‘Classic Car Garage’ range of apparel and accessories was born. For car guys and girls, by car guys and girls. Produced with passion to show the world who you are and what you enjoy.
